In Remembrance

On Monday, a good friend of mine lost her dog, Abby, to cancer.  We got to talking about how no one can understand what it’s like to lose a dog, unless they’ve experienced it on their own.  The bond shared is not unlike one between two humans–dogs are our partners, companions and friends.

The US Humane Society offers some advice to the grieving owner on their website; some of which parallels what you would find on human loss.  acknowledging the truth, seeking support through friends or groups and honoring your dog in a memorial service of some kind are all on the list.
